Bayou is entirely made with Game Maker 1. I started from zero to code the mecanics, shifting, camera and dialog.
The player have 3 differents spells to help him in his journey. He will acquiere this power all along the game. Evertime he got a new spell, the player will lost a part of he's maximum life. That mean everytime the player will be stronger, more he will have to be skilled.
This is a 1 year school project that we had to do in a team of 8. We decided to take as reference the old Zelda game. We were a multidisciplinary team, composed of game designer, Artist and music composer
At the beginning I participate in the first dicision about the game, like the core mecanics, the universe and the story. Then, I took the role of main programmer. I was in charge of coding the entire game, exept the monsters behavior. All along the project, I continue to gave my vision of the weaks/strongs points of the game about the Game Design experience. I also integrated all the work of the Artists and music composer.
Bayou is a demo of a 2D RPG game in the universe of Voodoo. Inspired by typical Game Design of old Zelda game, with a new mecanics. The most powerful the player will be, the less maximum life he have. Trapped in the swamp of the dead, the player will have to cross it to reach the Load who trapped him there. But he will have to face the servants of the Load and differents creatures lost in this swamp. The final goal of the player is to defeat the Loas himself.
